What Is The Technique? 

The method of Dermaplaning is a safely performed procedure using a specialised surgical implement in combination of with the use of specialised blades designed specifically for Dermal procedures. 

The technician holds the skin taut and gently glides the skin with the blade held at a 45 degree angle. 

  • This removes both the fine facial hair commonly known as “peach fuzz”  and the top layer of dead skin cells.

It can be utilized as an alternative to other modalities such as microdermabrasion, and laser.

Dermaplaning can also be added to other treatment modalities to enhance their efficacy. 

Is Dermaplaning Safe? 

Dermaplaning is incredibly safe when performed by a professionally trained technician utilizing Skin Deep Formulations and DermaplanePro techniques, tools and products. 

Can I Do Dermaplaning In My Province? 

This is going to most likely depend on the province in which you conduct business. 

Each province has different guidelines and regulations as to what an esthetician/technician can or cannot do. 

Each province’s guidelines depends on how your establishment is set up. 

We recommend checking in with your professional liability insurance company and local health inspector. 

They will provide you specific answers as well as guidelines as to what you can and cannot do. 

We refer you to your insurance provider to protect you as well as your license or certification.

What Is The Cost Per Treatment? 

Your cost per treatment is low when incorporating Dermaplaning supplies and products specific for Dermaplaning from Skin Deep Formulations.

When you reorder blades they are approximately $3 each in packages of 25, 50 or 100.

Dermaplaning is an extremely cost effective treatment without a lot of expensive inventory. 

Our products that you incorporate into Dermaplaning are approximate as we are not in control on the amount that is used in treatment.

This will depend on your business logistics, demographics and overhead costs. There is no one price that fits all.

Once The Vellus Hair Is Removed Will It Grow Back Thicker?

No, this literally is physiologically impossible. The soft, vellus hair will grow back slowly in approximately 4 weeks. 

There are two types of hair that grow on our bodies:

Vellus hair is the thin, fine, soft hair commonly known as “peach fuzz” that typically covers the entire body. 

Terminal hair is the course hair that grows on the head, face (in males), underarms, legs as well as the pubic areas.

Dermaplaning, waxing, sugaring, tweezing or any other depilatory form of hair removal cannot alter the type of hair grown in any given location. 

Can Dermaplaning Cause The Skin To Bleed?

Inferior supplies, excessive scraping and improper technique or angle can cause nicks, cuts which can cause bleeding. 

It is very important to have a professional training using the proper tools and also have sufficient practice before performing this treatment on clients.

Does Dermaplaning Hurt?

Dermaplaning is performed with a gentle scraping motion across the skin’s surface. Most people have an idea that all hair removal is painful, however Dermaplaning is entirely painless.

There are risks of nicks, cuts and scrapes on the skin, they are very minor as the pressure used for Dermaplaning cannot cause a deep cut. These nicks, scrapes or cuts generally heal within 24-48 hours

As you build your skill set, the risks of nicks, cuts and scrapes reduce. 

What Areas Can Be Treated?

Dermaplaning is appropriate to be performed on the face, under the chin and the sides of the neck.

In some cases technician who are still learning practice on forearms as well as the legs as the skin is tougher in those areas.

Some technicians will offer the forearms as an additional service.

Note: Dermaplaning should not be done on the eyelids or chest area.

How Often Can This Procedure Be Performed?

Treatment cycle can be performed every 3 to 4 weeks. Treating the skin in this manner it actually removes about 2 to 3 weeks worth of dead skin cells. 

The technician should allow the skin to complete it’s normal skin cycle. This is approximately 21 to 30 days before repeating the treatment.

How Long Does Dermaplaning Take?

Once you become comfortable doing Dermaplaning on a variety of face shapes, contours and skin types the actual time to do a Dermaplaning treatment is 15-20 min.

Additional time would need to be added when you are first learning or combining the treatment with other modalities such as facials, chemical peels, microneedling or laser. 

Can You Use It In Conjunction With Other Treatments?

Yes you can Dermaplane in conjunction with laser, skincare treatments such as facials, chemical peels and microneedling 

Can Dermaplaning Be Performed With A Chemical Peel?

Yes, Dermaplaning is an excellent method to prepare the skin prior to a chemical peel

Does The Skin Actually Peel From Dermaplaning?

No, Dermaplaning when performed as a prep for a chemical peel the visible exfoliation that the client sees will be result of the chemical peel used in the treatment.

Who Can Be Treated? 

All skin types and Fitzpatricks 1-6 can benefit. 

This is an excellent treatment for Global skin types. Darker skin tones actually have more layers of the skin. 

With aging the skin has the tendency to sag as opposed to wrinkle. Dermaplaning removes these extra layers of skin , assists in correcting pigmentation concerns as well as provides a youthful, healthy, balanced and glowing complexion.

Generally over 35+ years of age are the best candidates. They will also return for regular treatments. It is extremely addictive!

Males can only be Dermaplaned on non-beard areas. 

Who Is Not A Candidate For Dermaplaning?

Clients with active acne or cold sores should not be treated until the lesions are healed. 

Dermaplaning is excellent for smoothing out acne scars but should not be performed while there is active breakouts. 

Note: This is not a scar revision method

Clients with bleeding disorders or difficulty clotting should not be treated. 

Clients with diabetes that is not under control by medication or diet should not be treated.

Clients going through cancer treatments should not be treated.

Is There Any Downtime With Dermaplaning? 

One of the benefits of performing this treatment is that there is NO downtime. 

The skin immediately has a healthier glow and feels incredibly soft and smooth.

This is a must have treatment before any important social events.

Is There Any Side Effects Of Dermaplaning?

Side affects may include but are not limited too the following: 

Slight redness in your face for a few hours after getting the treatment.

Some individuals will develop whiteheads or slight breakouts on their skin a day or two after the treatment. 

Some individuals will be irritated after if they have metal allergies. If your clients have metal allergies it is important to stick to a stainless steel blade option.

How Is Dermaplaning Different From A Peel Or Microdermabrasion?

Hyperkeratosis is an accumulation of dead skin cells on the skin’s surface. 

Removing this initial layer, a chemical peel has the ability to penetrate deeper into the skin for a more effective treatment.

The combination of Dermaplaning and a chemical peel leaves he skin refreshed and rejuvenated.

Promoting healthy new skin development as well as targeting skin concerns  such as aging, pigmentation and environmental damage.

Microdermabrasion is a procedure that removes the superficial layer of dead skin cells. Its application method can be diamond tip or crystal application. Caution to treating individuals that have thin, sensitive, rosacea skin types. Dermaplaning would be the alternative to microdermabrasion and safe to perform on all skin types and skin conditions. 

Microdermabrasion & chemical peels are not methods of hair removal, and will not remove the “peach fuzz.”

What Is The Best Way To Learn Dermaplaning?

Taking a certification course is the best method to learn and with time you will master the Dermaplaning treatment. 

It is not recommended to learn from simply watching a video on social media or having a friend show you how they do it. 

There are a lot of more substance to the treatment than what you may see online. 

We have developed for Dermaplaning a two-part training program that provides everything that you  will need to be successful in a short period of time. 

This includes but not limited to supplies, forms, protocols etc. 

What Are The Upfront Costs To Get Started?

This is dependant on the training course you choose. We offer hands-on options as well as online options. 

If you choose hands-on training you will want to factor in the travel time & cost including staff costs. If you choose an online option the travel time & cost will be reduced.

What Shipping Methods Are Available?

We ship the majority of our orders via Purolator. 

If you would like to use an alternative carrier, we can accommodate this upon request.

The processing time for all orders is generally 1 business day. 

Order’s that are International must be shipped via Canada Post International and can take additional time and increased shipping charges.

We Do Not ship any Dermaplane Pro products to the following countries, as there are distributors in those areas. 

All other non Dermaplane Pro  products can be shipped anywhere in the world.

How To Track My Order?

Once the order is processed, it is picked packed and shipped. 

The courier takes the package, then the courier sends an email with the tracking information to the email you provided. 

In our experience, at times the emails being sent land in someone’s junk mail. 

We suggest if you do not see your tracking information 1 business day post ordering to check your junk mail. If you still have not received it, please contact [email protected] for assistance.

Do You Ship Internationally?

We will ship internationally, however we do not ship Dermaplane Pro specific products internationally to countries where Dermaplane Pro has a distributor. This includes the following countries:

USA

Australia

New Zeland

South Aftica

Netherlands

United Kingdom

Puerto Rico

International orders do require extra time, as there are factors to consider such as delays in customs. 

Orders that are shipped to countries outside of Canada may be subject to import taxes, tariffs as well as fee’s levied by the destination country or the shipping company. 

These additional charges are the customer’s responsibility. 

Skin Deep Formulations has no control over these charges and are unable to estimate them. Tariffs and taxes are neither collected or included in your price calculation at the time of your order; for an estimate of these fee’s which will vary by region we recommend contacting the customs office in your area. 

Laws in regards to shipping are different in each country. It is the responsibility of the customer to check with your customs office to verify whether the country to which you are shipping permits the shipment for your products. 

Skin Deep Formulations Inc. is not responsible for any direct or indirect punitive or consequential damages that arise from improper international shipping practices. .

How Long Will It Take To Get My Package?

This can vary for various reasons, including but not limited to inclement weather as well as holidays. 

Our processing and shipping timeline is between 5-8 business days (not including international shipments). 

Our office is closed on all major holidays. We cannot ship on federal holidays do to courier closures. 

Additional Shipping Information?

Should you have any claims for damaged goods in transit or for shortages must be made within 3 days of shipment arrival.

The customer will be responsible any additional shipping fees for:

  1. Re-Directing the package through the shipping company or
  2. If the package is returned to Skin Deep Formulations that needs to be re-shipped. 

Skin Deep Formulations is NOT responsible if a package is returned to us as “UNDELIVERABLE” it is the customers responsiblity for any additional shipping cost to re-ship the order.

Orders that are placed online payment can be made by PayPal (Visa, Mastercard, Discovery, AMEX) or via E-Transfer.

Orders & Returns

Can I Exchange Or Return My Order?

If you’re looking to exchange your product order for whatever reason, we’re here to help! 

We offer free exchanges within 30 days of receiving your order. You can return your product for a creditor a different product that we carry.

We DO NOT offer refunds on any Education Purchases or Printed Material Downloads. 

We are happy to accommodate a different online or onsite training date.

Please note the following exceptions to our exchange policy:

  • Discounted items are final and cannot be returned or exchanged
  • Returned items must have not been opened and be returned in original packaging
  • Returned items must have no visible signs of wear or use

To initiate a exchange, please complete the following steps:

  3. Provide preferred future dates that are listed choices from our website. If those dates do not work, we may be able to accommodate other solutions based on location. 

Additional Information:

  • Once the product is received to our warehouse, if you choose a credit it will be applied to your account on your next order. If you choose an exchange, we will ship the product out and you will receive the new product it 5-8 business days after original product has been processed.
  • Shipping fees for the exchange will be paid by the customer. To avoid additional shipping fee’s we recommend a credit on your account to be used towards future orders.

  • If your product is lost in transit, we will work with the courier company to track and retrieve it. 

Returned Items On Non Delivery

Once your order is received, it is entered into our invoicing system to be processed for packaging and shipping. Once labelled and picked up by one of our couriers (UPS, Purolator) a tracking # is emailed directly to you from the Courier company. Please check your junk mail as at times can end up there.

Once the Courier Company has it in transit, it is out of our hands and the tracking # is provided to you, it is your responsibility to track its location.

If the Courier attempts delivery and the package is sent back to us being “Non Deliveried” or “Returned By Sender” we will contact you to see how you would like to move forward.
